The Allira Group was contracted by Australian Railway TfNSW to find a solution for correctly torqueing M24 8.8 grade bolts to 620Nm in a confined space. The customer had difficulty obtaining the correct torque target due to lack of space to move a torque wrench, as well as poor operator ergonomics, putting workers at risk of a back injury.
The Allira Group, with our Australian partner company, JB Tooltech, implemented a combination of a Superbolt Bolt Style MJT Tensioner with a Uryu right angle shut-off tool to torque the jack bolts on the Superbolt. With the jack bolt torque requirement only being 14Nm we were able to use a tool that weighs under 2kg, taking all the strain away from the operator. Bolt load was confirmed by using a bolt load tester prior to assembly.
